I've been to most of them in the valley at one time or another and have decided to rate this (and cousin La Puente) based on the restaurant with which I'm most familiar. Bad luck for La Frontera as this one happens to be one of them on the lower side (the one on 400 S., conversely, is probably best, but it's not like that would be anything above 3 stars, either). This whole smothered burrito thing seems to be a largely Utahn concoction, sort of along the lines of how lunch meat topping a burger seems to also be somewhat unique to here. In this case, we have somewhat tasteless and greasy gloppy gravy with a few small chunks of usually fatty pork covering the entire plate around bean burritos that are mostly tortilla and then that covered with melted cheese. As gut-wrenching as this sounds, small wonder why they cover the plate as the burritos are difficult, at best, to eat without that flavor addition. I think this is the restaurant that got tagged some years ago for having poop stirred into their refrieds (there is a Utah government health violation website somewhere) and after learning of that, I immediately began wondering if they bothered to clean out the vat, as it would explain a lot. The chips and runny salsa vary pretty wildly. If you get chips with more of the red coating on it, they're not too terrible and the sauce runs the gamut from very mild to sometimes with enough of a bite to notice. Make no mistake; this is cheap, gutter, Mexican-ish "food" here and while you can get a lot on your plate for $7 or whatever it is now (have not eaten there in a long while and have no plans to do so ever again), if you're not really in the "trash" sort of mood or don't have a cast iron stomach, best to steer largely clear of this stuff. If you must have it, La Puente tends to be a better choice, but if you want actual good food, keep looking.

NASTY JUST NASTY!! My husband and I usually go to the 33rd location and were around this area so we thought it's got to be the same right?? UMMM NO!!! The place is dirty and run down, we honestly should have left when we walked in but we didnt, our bad! We ordered what we normally order and we got dried crunchy rice and I got a dried out tamale that tasted like it had been made hours before :( Then I came across a HUGE chunck of fat and bone in my verde! That was the last straw, I couldn't eat anymore which was a bummer because I was hungry! Then they over charged us and I brought it to oour waiters attention and he tried to argue with me about it even though I had the menu out and was showing him the correct price for what I ordered. Anyway, this place ruined our what use to be great opinion of this place! UGH!

Just another one of the many locations for La Frontera, and just like all the other locations they are consistent in taste. It won't blow your socks off with how great it is. But they do have some really good simple Mexican food. On all the weekdays they have a special deal that includes a soda of your choice. You really can't go wrong with that deal and you will be full when you leave.

There are soooooo many better choices for mexi food. I could name 10 places within a 2-mile radius that are at least twice as good as The Frontera.

Dirty huge Mexican food capital of the world, right here. And I secretly love it. The half order of nachos can feed me twice. This is for sure a quantity place, tons of regularish Mexican food for a decent price. The salsa recipe is just whatever you get, sometimes great, sometimes too hot to eat, but that's part of the charm. If you go to this location, ask to sit in the back, because you will be transported into some sort of dance hall bar situation that is a lot of fun to make up stories about and plan future weddings.

It's just like eating in Mom's kitchen exept brighter! Boy the food is good. I spend my time looking for authentic Mexican food like in Mom's kitchen and I found it at this location. I hold back one star becuase it isn't in California where I live. Go here enjoy. All the regular menu favorites and at a decent price.

My feelings about this establishment are on par with the rest of the reviews. I went here today for a business lunch - the upside. it was free. The food was average, and didn't scream of flavor. I got a smothered burrito (enchilada style) in hopes the enchilada sauce with give it a bit of a panache, but no such luck. It was all just plain from the burrito to the rice and beans. The chips and salsa were nothing different. Store bought chips with a sprinkle of chili powder? Oh well, it was free. But if you have to spend your own money - opt for something better.

Compared to Mexican food in Southern California, this place is sub par. Smothered burrito and ribs are probably your only two good options. Horchata is decent but only if they have it available. This place makes me wants to move to SLC and start a Mexican restaurant to save the good people of Northern Utah from this nonsense.

Well I have eaten here maybe 60 times and this was the first time I was really seriously disappointed with service, food and experience, we went on Saturday before Christmas at 4 pm and there were only people at 3 other tables. First our waitress was so high she could not stop moving around and twitching while at the table taking our order then we noticed she and the cook were the only to employees on duty, found that really strange for a Saturday late afternoon. 2 of the 6 plates order at the table were cold I sent mine back for the cook to nuke it in the waver oven so it was edible. We won't be back to this location EVER again, we will stick to the 3500 so location.

I am giving this place a 2 star based on I really liked their chips and hot sauce but outside of that I am not sure what to like. I feel like I should of drank either some amodium or pepto bismol right after eating here or purged. This place was kind of bragged up as some really good Mexican food and I am not trying to be a snob , but this was the farthest thing from that. I will give them an effort star for trying but nothing more. I ordered the Chili Verdi and they brought me out the Chili Colorado? I like both so I was willing to try it. There was literally 2 prices of meat on the whole plate and the rest was sauce. The beans I can guarantee are not fresh and had no flavor. To top it off I ordered some sour cream and they literally dropped off a ketchup like squeeze packet! You can't be serious! Even Taco Bell puts a side of sour cream in a small container. I am not sure what people here think is good Mexican food but this is not it. We nee to take a trip to the taco trucks of Stockton, Modesto and throughout central California. Then lets hit up some authentic Taqueria's but sorry to be over critical save some money and go to cafe rio or chipotle which I would usually not recommend. It would save you from the stomach ache my co worker and I have had since leaving here.

I dined here for lunch for the first time and I don't see myself coming back for more. I had the small combination plate and found the everything to lack flavor. The burrito had a really thick tortilla and the hard shell taco along with the tostada were soggy on the bottom. This made it very difficult to eat. Staff was friendly and answered any questions I had.
